Art Dubai 2019 will feature Art Dubai Contemporary, Art Dubai Modern, the second edition of Residents and Bawwaba, (meaning gateway in Arabic), a new section to the fair that features 10 solo presentations showcasing works created within the last year or conceived specifically for the fair.
To improve the gallery and visitor experience, the 2019 edition will see a number of changes to the layout of the fair:
- Art Dubai Modern will move into Gallery Hall 1 of the 2018 Contemporary section in a designated, distinctly identifiable are
- Bawwaba will be held in Gallery Hall 2 of the Contemporary section
- The second edition of the growing Residents section will move to the Mina A’Salam hotel where the Global Art Forum will also take place.
Art Dubai 2019 Guest Curators:
Brazilian Fernanda Brenner, Founder and Artistic Director of São Paulo-based contemporary art space Pivô and one of the most influential curators in Latin America, will co-curate the expanded Residents section of the fair that this year will focus on Latin America.
French-Cameroonian curator Élise Atangana, will curate the inaugural edition of Bawwaba (meaning gateway in Arabic), that will exhibit works by individual artists from, based in, or focused on the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, Central and South Asia.
Emirati curator Munira Al Sayegh, a well-established name in the UAE art scene, will both co-curate Residents and work with the Campus Art Dubai 7.0 cohort, who will create a body of work that will be exhibited during the fair.
