BARÓ was founded in São Paulo, Brazil in 1999.
Directed by Maria Baró, BARÓ Gallery has stood out for featuring international artists through its exhibition’s program as well as its pioneering vision in the search for new talents in the surroundings of its activity areas.
Since then, the gallery has succeeded in becoming a reference point for international art on the Brazilian art scene. Proof of this is the exceptional exhibition programme presented by the gallery, including Dennis Oppenheim’s first masterpiece in 1999 (São Paulo), exhibitions by Boltanski, Roman Signer, Rasheed Araeen and Tatiana Trouvé among others, as well as renowned Brazilian artists such as Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, David Medalla and Lygia Pape.
A relevant part of its program is the participation in the main international art fairs: Miami Basel, Armory-NY, ArtBO, ArtBA, SP-Arte, ArtRio, MACO-Mexico, Arco-Madrid, ArtDubai, Frieze NY, Frieze Masters, among others.
In 2018, María Baró and Enno R. Scholma founded BARÓ House in Madrid, an artistic and intellectual meeting place for international collectors and artists coming from, among other countries, Latin America and Europe.
In July 2021, BARÓ inaugurated its new location in the historic center of Palma, Mallorca.
