COMMISSIONS 2014

Art Dubai Commissions, as part of the extensive not-for-profit programme, gives regional and international artists the opportunity to develop dynamic site-specific works for the grounds of the fair. The projects are developed with local and international partner organisations creating a collaborative model that is designed to extend the life and influence of the project beyond the fair in March.

ARTISTS

Nadia Ayari, Selfie Booth, WC

Set in the public bathrooms at the fair, New York-based Tunisian artist Nadia Ayari’s asymmetrical sculpture double as an armature for her fresco paintings. The piece interfered with the fait-accomplis of contemporary modes of art consumption while celebrating their focus on ‘thing-ness’, promoting audiences to take ‘selfies’ in front of her installation.

Nadia Ayari’s explorations in fresco add a third sculptural dimension to her richly dense paintings. Ayari has had solo projects at The Third Line, Dubai, UAE (2013); Monya Rowe, New York, USA (2011) and Luce Gallery, Turin, Italy (2009). She has participated in group exhibitions at the 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale, Greece (2013); and the 12th Cairo Biennale, Egypt (2010).
