Founded in Tokyo in 1967, Whitestone Gallery is a leading force in Japanese modern and contemporary art, with spaces in Tokyo, Karuizawa, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Beijing, and Seoul. Expanding its scope, the gallery established the Karuizawa New Art Museum in 2012. Notable milestones include the Taipei, Singapore and Beijing spaces designed by architect Kengo Kuma. Continuing its global expansion, in 2023, Whitestone launched its Singapore, Beijing and Seoul galleries, as well as the New Art Museum Singapore in the same year.

Whitestone Gallery champions artistic freedom and innovation as part of our mission to promote significant Japanese post-war and contemporary artists on the global stage. Among the artists we represent, we share a particularly strong connection with the core members of the Gutai Art Association, formed in the postwar era in Osaka, Japan. This includes founding members of Gutai such as Shozo Shimamoto and Yasuo Sumi, as well as active contemporary artists like Yuko Nasaka, Tsuyoshi Maekawa, and Shuji Mukai, among others. Additionally, Whitestone Gallery also focuses on contemporary international artists such as Philip Colbert, Florentijn Hofman, Chen Yingjie, Yang Yongliang, and Miwa Komatsu, among others.
Committed to the belief that “art knows no borders,” Whitestone Gallery has actively participated in international art fairs to expand its global presence. Looking ahead, the gallery remains dedicated to furthering its influence, not only across Asia but also on the broader international art stage.
