Founded in 2003 by Maliha Tabari, Tabari Artspace emerged at a formative moment in the UAE’s art scene with a dual mission: to preserve craft traditions from the MENA region while supporting emerging Gulf artists on an international stage. Re-envisioned in 2017, the gallery bridges Arab artistic heritage with contemporary practices, foregrounding artists whose work reflects both historical depth and future potential.
From its inception, Tabari Artspace adopted an international outlook, championing artists from across the Arab world who were developing distinctive visual languages within their local contexts. The gallery has played a pivotal role in the early careers of influential figures such as Ahmed Mater, Farhad Moshiri, Louay Kayyali, Mohamed Abla, and Adel Siwi, while also working with major modern masters including Adam Henein and Hussein Madi. This intergenerational approach has helped build a strong international collector base.
Operating as both an exhibition platform and an incubator, Tabari Artspace places particular emphasis on GCC-based and female-led narratives, working closely with artists from Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. With spaces in Dubai and London (Cromwell Place, since 2015), the gallery supports its artists through international exhibitions, residencies, and cross-disciplinary collaborations, including a recent residency partnership in Forte dei Marmi focused on material experimentation and contemporary craft.
Committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, Tabari Artspace positions MENA art practices within global discourse. Its artists have been exhibited at major museums and biennials, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Venice Biennale, Sharjah Biennial, São Paulo Biennial, and Institut du Monde Arabe, and are held in prominent international collections.
