Beirut, Lebanon
Located in one of Beirut’s emblematic historical and cultural locations, the former Cinema Clemenceau (later the Theatre of Beirut), the Saleh Barakat Gallery functions as a truly modern art gallery. Born in 2016 after three years of planning and creative architectural remodeling, the Gallery space is a transformed, professional arena for the exhibition and exploration of art across a myriad of mediums.
After a quarter century of fostering, exhibiting and promoting a scope of pioneering work in modern and contemporary Arab art – with the Agial Art Gallery, the sister gallery to Saleh Barakat, playing a central role in putting Beirut on the map of modern and contemporary Arab art – it was time to meet the new challenges, and reach out beyond regional arenas through an expansion into a new space. This brought about the establishment of the Salah Barakat Gallery; a cultural establishment that strives to showcase new voices and the talents of ever-growing arts figures from across the globe.
