Iabadiou Piko (Piko Sugianto) was born in 1984 in Prabumulih, South Sumatera, Indonesia. In 2005 he graduated from the Academic Design of Vision Yogyakarta Department (ADV ), with a major in Diploma of Art Photography Design. He is a self-taught painter who now lives and works in Yogyakarta.

His work portrays memories of daily life in an abstract, figurative, and poetic atmosphere. He creates his work using the medium of painting and photography. His work is abstract, figurative, and intuitive, inspired by people he meets each day, things that happen to himself, and places he has been. He capture memories, feelings and imagination as a visual diary – his work is an allegory and metaphor of what goes around his life.

As a self-taught painter who majored in Art Photography, Piko is heavily inspired by his surrounding environment – expressing and translating reality into paintings using a rich visual language. “My work is an expression and the memory of behavior and personal feeling of anxiety about the perception of material reality, fantasy and human transformation. It is inspired by doodles, lines, images, impressions of forms, shapes, colors and environments that I have seen.”

Founded by Rifky Effendy and Michael Janssen in 2016, Orbital Dago is Indonesian project space, contemporary art gallery, and the latest addition to the growing art scene in Bandung.

Aiming to broaden the current discourse surrounding contemporary art in Indonesia, Orbital Dago will present the works of Indonesian and international artists who have rarely or have never been presented in Indonesia before.

The exhibition program will include amongst other things, artist talks, performances and screenings. Primarily concerned with developing the careers of its artists and nurturing an inquisitive and critical audience, Orbital Dago will function as a bridge between Indonesia and the world beyond, presenting and positioning their works within a greater international context. Itself the product of a creative collaboration, Orbital Dago will provide a platform for artistic dialogue and an avenue for which new collaborative opportunities can be explored. More than anything, Orbital Dago is an artistic expression concerned with the present yet anticipative of the future.
