Galleria Continua is a prominent international contemporary art gallery, founded in 1990 in San Gimignano, Italy, by Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi, and Maurizio Rigillo. Situated in a former cinema in a historically rich town, Galleria Continua has thrived in an unexpected location, far from major urban centres. In this unique setting, Galleria Continua explores dialogues between diverse geographies: rural and industrial, local and global, historical and contemporary art, as well as established and emerging artists.
In 2004, Galleria Continua became the first foreign gallery with an international programme to open in Beijing. In 2007, it also launched Les Moulins, a site for large-scale installations in the Parisian countryside. In 2015, the gallery expanded further by opening a space in La Habana, Cuba, dedicated to cultural projects aimed at transcending boundaries. For over thirty years, Galleria Continua has cultivated a distinct identity rooted in two core values: generosity and altruism, which underpin its interactions with artists, the public, and its overall development.
The gallery possesses a desire to contribute to the history of the present, engaging with diverse individuals and geographies. In 2020, marking its 30th anniversary, Galleria Continua inaugurated new spaces in Rome and São Paulo, followed by a venue in the Marais district of Paris in 2021. That same year, it also opened a new space in Dubai at the iconic Burj al-Arab, located off Jumeirah Beach.
