Since its founding in Jeddah in 2009, Athr Gallery has been a driving force in shaping Saudi Arabia’s contemporary art scene. With a strong commitment to experimentation and the exploration of new ideas, Athr highlights the crucial role of artists in the creative process and their potential impact on society. As a dedicated supporter of both emerging and established artists from Saudi Arabia and the Arab region, Athr provides numerous opportunities for artistic growth and professional development. Athr Foundation has been instrumental in nurturing the local scene. Founded in 2022, the foundation builds upon the gallery’s legacy to address the rapidly evolving exigencies of local artists, both emerging and established. Its public programming provides a unique platform for cultural discourse and the development of local artistic practices. Through both cultural entities, Athr facilitates residencies, special commissions, group exhibitions, symposia, funding initiatives, and more within Jeddah and beyond

Founded by Hamza Serafi and Mohammed Hafiz, whose passion and network allow Athr to have a deeply engaged discourse in the local art scene, they have taken on the initiative of filling the absence of public art institutions, museums and art schools to establish a sustainable art scene open to the world all while having an international presence.
