Established in the early 2000s by Mamta Singhania, Anant Art has played an important role in promoting contemporary South Asian art. From the outset, the gallery sought to redefine how art is experienced and collected, focusing on innovative practices and culturally relevant themes. This vision, shaped by a deep engagement with both emerging and established artists, positioned Anant Art as a critical player in India’s evolving art scene. Artists like Raqs Media Collective, Rashid Rana, and Bharti Kher have been part of the gallery’s early exhibitions, bringing a blend of conceptual rigour and aesthetic innovation.

The gallery is dedicated to showcasing contemporary art that interrogates and redefines cultural narratives. Its probing and evolving program has garnered significant attention, with artists like Vikrant Bhise entering prestigious collections such as the Asian Art Museum, ICA Miami, KNMA, and SavvyContemporary. Dhara Mehrotra was featured at the British Textile Biennale 2023 and was a Visiting Artist Fellow at Harvard University in Spring 2023. Ghulam Mohammad made history as the first Pakistani artist to win The Jameel Art Prize ‘4’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2016. Meanwhile, Alexander Gorlizki’s solo exhibition, ‘What The Camera Didn’t See’, showcased a unique collection in collaboration with Pink City Studio at the Museum of Art &Photography (MAP), Bengaluru in 2023-24.

These milestones, among others, reinforce Anant Art’s intentional curatorial program, which continuously seeks to explore new perspectives and cultivate meaningful dialogues between tradition, identity, and contemporary practice. Crucially, Anant Art has long represented Pakistani artists at a time when their voices are often underrepresented in their home country, demonstrating its commitment to fostering diverse narratives and advancing discourse in contemporary art.
