For its 2023 edition, Art Dubai’s commission invited visitors to explore the culinary and artistic delights of 'Chaupal' - a space to embrace the spirit of community, gathering, and performance that was at the heart of this year’s commission.

The programme called 'Chaupal: A Journey Through South Asia. Food and Performance as Community Building' was divided into two spaces - the delightful delicatessen shop and the captivating performance arena, where a diverse lineup of South Asian artists took guests on a journey through the senses, ancient recipes, games, and rituals.

Campus Art Dubai (CAD) is part of Art Dubai’s extensive year-round programming and aims to provide existing and aspiring members of the region’s cultural and creative community with educational and professional opportunities. CAD was the first programme of its kind in the region and has continuously developed and reinvented itself over its past iterations.

The third edition of the A.R.M Holding Children’s Programme featured Swedish artist Jacob Dahlgren and encouraged children to creatively and abstractly think about their environments through the use of everyday craft materials and scrap fabrics. Children took part in imagining and collaging together designs that were later sewn and transformed into flags. An extension of his ongoing project, Signs of Abstraction, the workshop acted as an invitation to engage abstractly with the context we inhabit, allowing the children to work together towards a common goal and create collaborative artworks: colourful tapestries and flags.

The Dubai Collection is the city’s first institutional collection of modern and contemporary art, dedicated to inspiring and educating those who live in & visit Dubai. All artworks in the Dubai Collection reflect the values of openness, diversity, and interconnectedness as embodied in the spirit of Dubai and the UAE.

The collection is built in partnership with patrons who support the initiative through an innovative loan system, all artworks are accessible through the Dubai Collection digital museum, a repository of information and research about all artworks, artists and patrons in the collection. In addition, a series of events and temporary exhibitions ensures the public can see the collection in person on a regular basis.

Dubai Public Art, a multi-year government-led strategy that will develop and deliver major public art commissions across the city, announced a shortlist of talented artists for its first-ever commission in partnership with Art Dubai. The inaugural landmark commission will bring contemporary public art to Al Hudaiba area, overlooking Etihad Museum and Union House in Dubai. It is aimed to elevate the city’s profile as a global cultural capital, inspiring and captivating viewers from around the globe.

Announced at the 16th edition of Art Dubai, the shortlisted artists were chosen from over 250 applications and include: Afra Al Dhaheri, Asma Belhamar Shaikha Al Mazrou, Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim, Khalid Albanna.

Each artist will receive USD 5,000 to cover the costs of preparing a detailed technical proposal and maquette – leading up to the winner announcement in Spring and the unveiling of the finished work at the end of 2023.
