Located in the center of Seoul’s cultural district that leads the Korean art scene, Barakat Contemporary has a competitive and unique program that explores the frontline of cultural intersections by means of extensive research on pressing issues in the international society. We represent and collaborate with international artists such as El Anatsui, Shezad Dawood, Wael Shawky, Michael Dean, Mark Dion, Emma Hart, and Korean artists Chung Seoyoung, Yunchul Kim, Sung Hwan Kim, Sojung Jun, Yangachi, Jewyo Rhii, who all put forward consequential interpretations and proposals regarding various academic discourses, aesthetics, identities, culture, history, etc. As one of the few galleries in Korea that work with artists from very diverse geographies and cultures, our program strives to match their rigor by producing ambitious and in-depth commission works, publications, performances, and talks. In line with this effort, we constantly collaborate with domestic and international institutions, galleries, curators, and collectors to foster constructive synergies that would ultimately steer novel and meaningful exchange.
