Since its inception in 1991 Andréhn-Schiptjenko has consistently been committed to working on an international arena and to the long-term representation of emerging and established contemporary artists from all over the world working with painting, sculpture, photography, film and digital media as well as installation-based and site-specific work.

The gallery has in the past soon three decades organized and curated exhibitions that have become seminal in the Nordic context, successfully launching thecareers of Scandinavian artists such as Cajsa von Zeipel, Gunnel Wåhlstrand, Annika Elisabeth von Hausswolff and Matts Leiderstam, and giving artists such as Uta Barth, Cecilia Bengolea, José León Cerrillo, Martín Soto Climent, Ridley Howard, Tony Matelli and Xavier Veilhan their first European or Scandinavian one-person exhibition.Artists represented by the gallery are regularly present in major international survey contexts, for instance Jacob Dahlgren, Annika Elisabeth von Hausswolff,Siobhán Hapaska and most recently Xavier Veilhan with Studio Venezia (2017) have all represented their respective countries at the Venice Biennale.

The gallery enjoys privileged relationships with museums and collectors and is also involved in projects in the public arena. As way of expanding the gallery’sinternational scope and to accommodate for collaborative and multidisciplinary projects a second space opened in Paris in the spring of 2019, allowing for a closer relationship with the gallery’s international network.

Andréhn-Schiptjenko has participated in international art fairs since the mid-90s – The Armory Show, Art Basel, CHART Copenhagen, Material Art Fair Mexico City and FIAC Paris to name but a few. It is owned and directed by Ciléne Andréhn and Marina Schiptjenko, who are both active in the art world beyond the gallery, as selection committee-members of art fairs and board members of institutions and the Swedish National Gallery Association.
