Following the launch of Dubai Collection in October 2020 — Dubai Culture’s initiative to collect, promote and exhibit artworks that convey the spirit of the emirate, under His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed, Chair of the Dubai Collection’s Steering Committee announced the members of the Steering and Curatorial Committees and the roles of both.
With an inclusive and collective outlook, the Dubai Collection is an opportunity for patrons to showcase their collections and for artists to have their artworks included within a publicly accessible platform. The Collection charts the history of the city and highlights Dubai’s vibrant and progressive identity, reaffirming its position as an international hub for art and culture.
The Steering Committee oversees the development of the Dubai Collection, and is made up of leading figures from the UAE cultural sector. Their role is to ensure that the initiative fulfils its ambitions, and that it is run according to best practices in the cultural sector. Chaired by HH Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Steering Committee’s members are: H.E. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, H.E. Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, H.E. Abdulrahman Al- Owais, Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal, Mohamed Al Murr and Muna Easa Al Gurg.
Alongside the Steering Committee, the Curatorial Committee is responsible for overseeing which artworks will be included in the Collection. The Committee is composed of individuals with substantial experience in the fields of exhibition making as well as building world-class institutional collections. Chaired by Muna Faisal Al Gurg, the Curatorial Committee’s members are: Munira Al Sayegh, Antonia Carver, Venetia Porter, Nada Shabout and Maryam Al Dabbagh.
The Dubai Collection was developed in collaboration with The Art Dubai Group who continues to be the primary point of contact for its full operations, running activities on behalf of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.
