Art Salon’s First International Trip to the Opening of Venice Biennale

Art Dubai’s private collectors club Art Salon took its first international trip last week to attend the opening of the 58th Venice Biennale May You Live in Interesting Times.

Meticulously put together by Art Dubai Director of VIP Relations Lela Csaky and Isidora Popovic, the three-day itinerary offered the 21 Art Salon members on the trip unique access to shows, exhibitions and events at La Biennale di Venezia, the world’s oldest contemporary art event.

On the itinerary was the official openings of some of this year’s National Pavilions including the UAE, Pakistan, India, Iraq and Singapore, as well as a host of private curator-led tours of places such as the newly-opened Ocean Space, an interdisciplinary arts centre in a recently-restored church, the V-A-C Foundation and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

“We developed the trip in response to an increasing number of requests from our Art Salon members to expand the programme internationally and, after some fantastic feedback from those that joined us last week, hope to offer similar opportunities to leading art destinations in the future,” said Csaky.

Art Salon members commented of the trip:

Izzat and Suzy Dajani: “An incredible Art Salon event to visit Venice Art Biennale together with a group of highly talented, exceptionally engaging, and very passionate people. The trip was very well organized with multiple networking events, several visits to different country pavilions, and global art collections. We were invariably met by pre-arranged curators with incredible knowledge and flair. We saw a lot, learned a lot, and discovered a lot.”

Mohammed Afkhami and Maryam Massoudi: “The trip was wonderfully organized with the top curators giving personal tours of the most sought after pavilions and shows. The trip will be placed as a permanent fixture on the diary going forward!”

Abdi and Marjan Fateh: “It was our first trip to Venice and we were so lucky that Art Salon had arranged a trip for the Venice Biennale. From arrival to departure everything was booked and prepared perfectly. We enjoyed every minute of it.”

Nissreen Darawish: “Art Dubai was a fantastic host to an art-packed itinerary which was so well organised. It was an amazing and very memorable trip.”

Art Salon is Art Dubai’s by-invitation-only private collectors members club. Created in 2014, it now includes more than 90 members and offers collectors, and patrons of the arts, the opportunity to meet and interact with other like-minded individuals through exclusive-access and one-off events, tours and talks.

Gatherings take place throughout the year and often feature special regional and international guests such as artists. Recent event highlights include dinner at Jameel Arts Centre held before the centre’s opening; an intimate gathering with H.E. Minister of Culture Noura Al Kaabi; and several artist talks – Timo Nasseri, Tadesse Mesfin and Zhivago Duncan – hosted at members’ homes.
