Etiquette

Courtesy and hospitality are important virtues in the Gulf, and visitors will enjoy the friendliness and warm welcome of locals and residents.

Dress Code

While dress codes are fairly liberal, swimwear should only be worn on beaches or at swimming pools. Certain attractions, such as mosques or religious sites, have stricter dress codes, requiring both men and women to cover up bare shoulders, arms and legs and women to wear headscarves.

The dress code for Art Dubai openings and formal dinners is smart casual.

Photography

It is highly discouraged to take pictures of government or military organisations. If you want to take pictures of people it is important to ask first.

Tipping

Although not compulsory, giving tips is a common practice in Dubai – in restaurants, hotels and cafés.
