Book Launch: Paul Guiragossian: Displacing Modernity

Wednesday, March 21

Marking the 25th anniversary of the artist’s death, this timely and comprehensive monograph addresses the five-decade career of one of the most significant artists in the Arab World. Edited by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, and Manuella Guiragossian, and drawing on a sweeping range of primary documents from the Paul Guiragossian Foundation archives, this 400-page publication builds on recent scholarship in Arab Modernism, as well as the cultural heterogeneity of the world of the artist.  It reveals Guiragossian as an artist-philosopher whose personal experience of displacement led him to craft a formal style and critical stance that were on the forefront of modernism’s search for a language that could aptly express the complexities of the human condition.
