A Gentil Carioca was founded in 2003 and it is a contemporary art gallery that differs from other galleries because of its particular characteristics, one of which is that it was founded by three artists – Márcio Botner, Ernesto Neto and Laura Lima – an initiative that makes it unique in Brazil. This gallery is a place to think, produce, experience, celebrate and market the art.
Located at the historic center of Rio de Janeiro, more specifically in the region known as Saara, the largest outdoor market in Latin America which was founded in the last century by Arab and Jewish immigrants. Around the gallery you can find all kinds of trinkets and spices, a fundamental attraction for many artists and curious people. A Gentil is present in a 1920s townhouse over one of these stores and also on a three floors building listed as historical patrimony, occupying a crossroad in the heart of this market.
A Gentil Carioca was born mixed to capture and spread the diversity of art in Brazil and in the world. The gallery believes that each work of art is a cultural particle with enough power to radiate culture and education. Its fixed address takes place of concentration and irradiation of the voice of different artists and ideas, as well as advocates the expansion of the potential field of action of art by stimulating the network of collectors and lovers of art in general.
