CAMPUS ART DUBAI 6.0: OPEN STUDIOS & PUBLIC EVENTS

As part of Art Dubai’s curatorial partnership with Art Jameel for CAD 6.0, this year’s edition of the programme will include an open studio as well as a range of public events, offering the public an opportunity to meet the artists and get creative.

CAMPUS ART DUBAI OPEN STUDIOS

In collaboration with Campus Art Dubai, Project Space Art Jameel is hosting a six-week experimental studio for seven CAD members and alumni.

Set to begin on July 30, 2017, the communal studio will provide participants with a semi-public environment to practice, create, research and exchange. Participants will also partake in a collective reading group, walking club amongst other activities including hosted dinner gatherings, screenings and workshops as exercises in investigating notions of community building, shared responsibility and resources. A selection of sessions is open for public registration and participation.

The project will conclude with Open Studios taking place August 26 – September 6 where artists will showcase results and work of both physical and digital media to the public.

Materials to be covered include science fiction, historical fiction, critical theory, film, and popular music. Readings will be provided in advance of each session. Participants are expected to commit to attending all sessions.

Location: Project Space Art Jameel (PSAJ), Warehouse 48, The Yard, Alserkal Avenue

SLOW CURRY COMMUNITY: DINNER

A special invitation for creatives to join in on a CAD studio artists’ tradition of regular dinners about town. This series of gathering over meals has been developed in response to transitioning from formality to familiarity when joining a new cohort. With trust as a main ingredient, the dinners evoke a collective agreement of resistance to external attempts to rush the sense of community. Out of this recipe, a broth of debate, honest conversations and potential collaborations emerges. In the spirit of the Slow Curry Community “rules” and concerned themes of “investments”, dinners are self-paid and are not to exceed AED 30 per person.

Date and Time: Tuesday August 29, 7pm

Location: Calicut Paragon, Al Karama

DRAWING-FROM-FILM: WORKSHOP

CAD Studio Dubai-based artist, Nadine Ghandour leads a workshop of drawing-from-film with selections featuring short videos from archival, satellite and personal footage exploring multiple viewpoints played on loop.

This alternative exercise in drawing is not technical but rather focuses on pace, looking, finding, compiling, adding and subtraction with a continuously developing composition.

Dates and Times: Sunday August 27, 2017 (adults), 6pm and Wednesday September 4, 2017 (teens, ages 15+), 4pm-6pm

Location: Project Space Art Jameel, Alserkal Avenue
