Sara Naim Steals Time

In the spirit of Ryan McGinley whom she spent three months working with, the images Sara Naim presents in her limited edition zine, Jumper, Gida, Dancers, Girl in Dress, are infused with the youthful energy of summer.
The zine contains 4 short stories.”The common thread that ties the photographs together,” as Naim puts it, “are their sequential nature, with six to nine images of each series taken within seconds of one another. The zine is a gesture of time’s character.”
Like stolen frames from a home video, the images feel intimate and rather than stopping time, the photos seem to break it down. In contrast to video stop-motion, the photos in Naim’s zine control time rather than being controlled by it.
Naim’s previous work also relates to the intangible, or visualizing the invisible. “I’ve photographed sound vibrations, corneas of the eye, dead skin cells, and light. The subjects of the mini series within the zine are very different, but they highlight fractions of a second that usually goes unnoticed. Ephemeral actions that are caught just before transitioning; that’s quite intangible.”
