Biography:
Began painting seriously from 1995, while still working as a Designer at an
Advertising agency and a Publication House in Kuala Lumpur. I have always
been interested in art. Even at a young age I knew that my career would
involve art. I got my degree in Graphic Design and during college I acquired
many techniques and styles during numerous fine art classes. After years of
hardworking and going through a few stages of developments, experiences and
obsevation, my works has progressed through strokes, colours and techniques.
My participation in the arts have been on display locally and at the
international level.
Born in Sepang, Selangor. I learned my artworks through APS Art Class
(Angkatan Pelukis SeMalaysia), the breeding of many of Malaysia‚s finest
artists. Then I set for extensively show throughout Malaysia and slowly
ventures beyond the realms of my island home to achieve the great works at
the Desenta Gallery in Bandung, Indonesia.
Think of abstract art, as music without words. You respond to music
emotionally and you don‚t need words, just as you don‚t need specific image
in painting. When looking at my contemporary abstract art, I would like the
viewers to be stirred by the movement of ideas in his unconscious mind even
as he thinks he is looking at colours, strokes and textures.‚‚
I want people to see and feel my paintings. I do not limit myself regarding
subject. I get inspired by everything. Remember good art is not what it look
like, but what it does to us. Art is not what you see, but what you make
others see.

ZUL ALBANI
EARTH AND SKY SERIES ... 2008
Deeper, true, illusion, creed, sins, rewards, God. These are the words that
struck one‚s mind upon viewing Zul Albani‚s series of collection entitled
Earth And Sky, an assemblage of 15 abstract works from a Malaysia artist.
It has been a know fact that the existence of the world is not for long and
no man on earth can claim right on it. We are all here for a very stipulated
time - life is very fragile. The earth moves on its obit. In fact the whole
galaxy is moving not according to man‚s whims and fancies. Man has no
control of power on the happenings of the world and beyond man‚s capability
to empower. The empowerment of man in whatever area is comparable to only a
drop of water in an ocean.
It‚s apt that Zul Albani calls this collection Earth And Sky because the sky
and earth belong to HIM, The Almighty. Life in this world is not eternity.
Therefore live to the fullest with the guidance of HIM, as The Creator.
Rotation of day and night is one vivid example that man has no control of.
It goes on and on till the end of the world called The Doomsday where man
will be judged on their good and bad deeds. In the name of time, man are
always in a big loss except those who are God-fearing. Man Œs inclination is
more on the negative side which will eventually destroy themselves.
The sun also has its axis of rotation. It gives livelihood to man on earth.
It rotates in phases and by the rotation it comes back to its original
place. The sun and the moon will not meet. Instead they are all doing their
own job to complement man‚s life on earth. The same goes with the night and
day; the night will never overtake the day but keep working as they are
supposed to be doing their job dutifully. Both night and day are as equally
important to the man.The whole rotation again falls back on The Creator -
it‚s just as HE WISHES. Man thereforemust fully be aware that no matter how
great one is, the existence of The Almighty must be acknowledged and
realised. The Creator is responsible for all the creations in this whole
galaxy and hereafter.
„Land and Sea‰ symbolises the battlefield and the struggle of man to live
this life which is full of ups and downs; both material and inner strength
are the pre-requisites for man to lead this life and earn a bleesing living,
good or bad deeds or abstaining from the wrongdoings.
Symbols of the moon and the sun used by the artist is to signify the
existence of God in our daily life and the world hereafter. Usage of lines
and colourful boxes are the directions to be adhered by man.
The artist tries to convey his message through the use of dark space in his
works to portray emptiness of soul wth the vibrancy of the colours to play
the work of emotions -guidance is again needed. Whereas the moon signifies
the powerfulness and the mightiness of The Creator.
Each work seems to address the similar issue in the mind of the artist but
with different angles so that the concept of the series is strongly binded.
Every artis has his own observation and his own thoughts to clarify to the
world. Comparing him with the masters of abstract like Wassily Kandinsky,
Han Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Latiff Mohidden and Syed Ahmad Jamal will not give
him due credit. His works outshine as he is adamant on his ideas and made
the viewers sit by his side to his adamant examine the subject closely. Good
art is not what it look like, but what it does to us. The painting has a
life of its own.
