Biography:
Swiss-born artist Nils Brazzola grew up in a family of artists, mostly painters, who always encouraged his creativity and artistic expression.
Instinctively drawn to nature, Nils first worked as a forester in Switzerland and then at a wild animal sanctuary in Bolivia. His keen knowledge and appreciation of nature and wildlife is reflected in some of his work.
Brazzola experimented with different media before focusing on oil painting, such as pencil, ink, latex, watercolour, acrylic and various crafts. He still uses his experience of these materials in his current artwork to add texture and depth to the oil paintings.
Nils Brazzola won a crafts prize in Minnesota, USA, during his studies there. He then went on to participate in three exhibitions in Switzerland for his ink drawings and spent three years at the Société d’Etudes Artistiques (Society of Artistic Study) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Recently relocated to Dubai, UAE, Brazzola has decided to dedicate himself fully to developing a professional career in art. He is currently working on a new collection of oil paintings entitled ‘Red and Black’ which he hopes to exhibit in Dubai. See www.nbrazzola.com.
Statement:
Ranging from surrealist to abstract, I try to define a unique and personal style of contemporary and vibrant oil paintings. My ambition is to fuse materials and styles while incorporating deep emotional meaning and intense passion. My artwork can be dark, psychedelic, dream-like or breathtaking, but it is always meaningful. I like to think that it is an open door to my mind.
I am currently working on a new ‘Red and Black’ collection of oil paintings. The striking combination of rich reds and shady blacks projects you into a world of contrasts while harsh, sometimes brutal lines tangle with soft and brilliant hues.
I enjoy experimenting with various new materials, techniques and styles to create texture and depth in my art. Each painting is a new journey of experiments and discovery. The canvas develops through a multi-layered progression and matures with every coat to reflect a complex structure. This three-dimensional, almost palpable style adds a sense of depth and intensity. Each piece seems to project from the canvas and draw you in for a small glimpse of myself.
I draw inspiration from all around me and strive to reflect the modern world of contrasts and fast-track living, while remembering to dream, imagine and escape into a realm of senses and passion
