Credit Suisse "Art & Entrepreneurship" - Exhibition Tour 2008
As a key supporter of both the arts community and of the Middle East’s status as an emerging artistic and commercial hub, Credit Suisse is delighted to launch the global opening of its Arts & Entrepreneurship exhibition alongside Art Dubai 2008.
From 19-22 March in Dubai, Credit Suisse will showcase the works of 19 artists from 16 countries tasked with translating the fundamentals of entrepreneurship into works of art. Participating artists focused on the five core values of entrepreneurship -- Vision, Knowledge, Network, Family and Social Responsibility – to influence their pieces which ultimately make up the exhibition.
The diversity of artists participating in Credit Suisse’s first-ever Art & Entrepreneurship exhibition is also in line with the geographic reach of galleries taking part in Art Dubai 2008 – the exhibition features pieces from Moroccan, Japanese, Singaporean, Bulgarian, and American artists, among others. The results, which range from video installations to sculpture, mixed media art projects, oil paintings and watercolours, and photography, highlights the risks and rewards of today’s contemporary art undertakings, and the confluence of art and entrepreneurship on a global scale.
A significant number of the artists participating in the inaugural Credit Suisse exhibition will be on hand to interact with collectors, curators, gallerists and other art decision-makers attending the five-day art fair – among the expected participants are Jiten Thukral , Sumir Tagra, Latifa Echakhch, Mamiko Otsubo, and Plamen Dejanoff as well as the curator Michelle Nicol and the exhibition architects Miesse & Ploughfields.
Art Dubai attendees will have the opportunity within the Global Art Forum on March 19 to meet and hear firsthand from these artists on their vision for the future of the contemporary art scene and how it complements the growth of entrepreneurship in the Middle East region and beyond.
After its inaugural display as part of Art Dubai, the Credit Suisse Art & Entrepreneurship exhibition tour will continue to major cities including New York and London. The tour concludes in London with the auctioning of the featured works at the renowned Phillips de Pury & Company in November 2008. Fifty percent of the proceeds are reserved for the artists, and the other half will go to "Room to Read", a non-profit charitable organization that builds education infrastructures in developing countries.
